Brief Summary:

BRIEF SUMMARY

From the Author’s website:

Claymore Beller tried to do the right thing. It was the last thing he did. In retaliation for his efforts, his mafia bosses laid waste to his family. Only the youngest–Cynthia–came up fighting.

Three years ago, Lee Maxwell made the same error. His wife and daughter paid for his mistake. In a haze of booze and regret, Lee disappeared.

Now, Owen Dunham is following the trail of the ‘Grudge Ninja’–only all his evidence is false and the profilers can’t get their heads around anything except the obvious fact that the Ninja is extracting a deadly revenge for an old wrong.

As the Ninja gets bolder and far more dangerous, Owen is forced to recognize that he hasn’t always made the right decisions–he’s spent far too much time trying to be right. Even as he questions whether bringing in the ninja is the right thing to do, the voice in the back of his head is telling him that it will make his career…

Personal Review:

PERSONAL REVIEW

Could not turn it off. If I had to give a one sentence review that would be it.

The characters voices again fit the written personalities perfectly and really added to the overall listening experience. A.J. has written this novel to seamlessly stream a movie into your imagination as you listen.

Although some of the aspects of the main characters carrying out their daily tasks and the timing of those tasks seemed stretched, the action and interaction more than made up for it. Scudiere shows her darker side with the detailed descriptions of the torturous hits and delves deep into the psychology of why each was carried out the way it was. I loved it!

I still cannot believe that A.J. wrote this book, comparing it to the first time I was exposed to her with “Resonance” (see that review here). This had completely different characters, actually type of characters than her last novel. The pace was different, the genre was different. It was amazingly good and I cannot wait to listen to her third work for comparison.

This story sounds like an excellent audiobook. I love the differences between the two main characters. I can’t wait to read the ending of this story. I am sure I am going to enjoy reading it.
