Free Audiobook Sources

Recently I purchased a new car that came equipped with an ipod connection, a usb drive, a mp3 CD player, and allowed streaming from my Droid Pro.

As I looked at the stack of CD’s in the “to be listened to” pile I made a decision to investigate the other methods to gather and listen to books.

Below is a compilation of all the sources I have found.

Audible Over 85,000 works in most formats (free 14 day trial)

Books Should Be Free Books available in MP3, iTunes and iPod format. Mainly Public Domain Books.

Librivox MP3 or OGG format. All Public Domain Books.

Librophile MP3 and iTunes format. Mostly Public Domain Books.

Jeff Lane Audio Books Podcast Novels, Short Stories and Commentary from author Jeff Lane.

Ambling Books Must use on their player. Mostly Public Domain.

Free Classic Audiobooks MP3 and iPod. Classic Audibooks. Mostly Public Domain.

Story Nory Mostly children’s stories.

New Fiction NewFiction offers a library of audio books that are performed by multiple actors. We call them iSoaps. Consider them modern-day radio dramas.
Just sign in and you will get a daily installment that can be delivered to your computer, iPod, iPad, or Smartphone.

Open Culture Mostly Classics.

Learn out loud This directory features free audio books, lectures, speeches, sermons, interviews, and many other great free audio and video resources.
